How the Crimean Tatars Voted in the First Round on Presidential Elections of Ukraine

About that as well as for whom the concrete voter votes, only voter knows, remained or at home, or in private in a booth for voting. It is especially difficult to learn distribution of preferences of voters to a national sign. And it is especially inconvenient to make it in such multinational region, as Crimea.

Nevertheless, there is a method which allows with sufficient accuracy to evaluate this indicator if polling district borders coincide with borders of places of compact residing of this or that ethnic group.

After mass returning of the Crimean Tatars home for the last twenty years on peninsula have out of the blue grown more than 300 microdistricts and settlements of repatriates literally. For that analysis as well as for whom the Crimean Tatars on presidential elections in the first round voted, we had been chose seven largest settlements in which 12 polling districts have been created. These are three microdistricts in Simferopol, two in Bakhchisarai, one in Belogorsk and Evpatoria. And also three inhabited files in a countryside: two in the Simferopol area and village Sarybash in Pervomaisk area.

According to the bodies which are keeping account the Crimean Tatars in Crimea, in 2007 from their number having the right to vote was more than 193000 persons. According to the Central Electoral Committee of Ukraine the number of voters on the polling districts chosen by us has constituted 20314 persons. Have come to vote — 9800 persons. The appearance has constituted 48,2 %. As a whole across Crimea the appearance has constituted 63,1 %.

To whom the Crimean Tatars from those who has come on polling districts have preferred? The three of leaders look as follows: For Yulia Timoshenko 60 %, for Victor Yanukovych — 12 %, for Sergey Tigipko — 11,1 % have voted. For working president Victor Yushchenko 5 % of the Crimean Tatars have voted. Against all 2,7 % have voted. 3 More % have appeared the spoilt reports.

As it is known, the Sanhedrim of the Crimean tatar people «Namus» and a consignment of Milli Firka have urged compatriots not to support on these elections whom from candidates. This item was supported by 58 % of the Crimean Tatars: those who have not come to vote, those who voted against all and those who has spoilt reports.

From total number of the Crimean Tatars having the right to vote, main «democrat» Yulia Timoshenko was supported by 28,9 %.

For J.Timoshenko in Crimea 117483 voters have voted. By the way, on last presidential election in 2004 of main «orange» candidate Victor Yushchenko in Crimea has supported almost 179000 voters.

What contribution of the Crimean Tatars in support of Yulia Timoshenko? According to the presented figures, for Yulia Timoshenko has voted close to 56000. «The None Tatar» contribution of support of J.Timoshenko, thus, constitutes more than 61000 votes.

Results of elections in the first round have shown that call-up of leaders of Milli Medzhlis actively to vote for democratic candidates (and actually for Yulia Timoshenko) had support less than at third Crimean Tatar voters.
