Austria Has Returned Cultural Values of the Crimean Tatars

Austria has transferred to Ukraine a collection of subjects of art of the people of the Crimea which has been taken out for limits of our state during the Second World War.

As the press-service of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine informs, solemn ceremony of transfer to the Ministry of culture and tourism of Ukraine subjects of arts and crafts of nationalities of Crimea returned by the Austrian Republic and private letters of the period of German occupation Kamjanets-Podolsk on December, 19th has taken place.

The deputy minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine Alexander GORIN, the deputy minister of culture and tourism of Ukraine have taken part in transfer ceremony Timofei KOKHAN, the Plenipotentiary ambassador of the Austrian Republic in Ukraine Markus VUKETICH, the vice-president of Public service of the control over moving of cultural values through frontier of Ukraine Pavel BILASH, and also representatives of the Austrian cultural forum and the Bakhchsarai historical and cultural reserve.

The returned cultural values are a collection of textile products of the Crimean Tatars and Karaims whose includes scarfs, belts, bags, draperies, the garters made, mostly, from a velvet, sheathed by gold threads.

According to the arrangements signed with the Austrian party, cultural values of nationalities of Crimea will be transferred by the Ministry of culture and tourism of Ukraine, according to the established procedure, to constant storage in the Bakhchsarai historical and cultural reserve, and correspondence certificates — in the State archive of Khmelnitskiy area, a memorial complex «the National museum of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945» and the National museum of history of Ukraine.

The correspondence returned by the Austrian party — about 1200 letters — will give the chance to learn about destiny of people whose tragical events of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War have concerned 1941-1945
