The Crimean Tatars require new leaders who would replace a present management of Medzhlis. It was declared by the Russian political scientist Alexey Ivanov, making comments on the next prolongation of powers of Mustafa Dzhemilev as the head of Medzhlis.

«It would be desirable, that Tatars had new leaders, people who would personify more secular way of development Crimean Tatar societies. But these people has not appeared. And it is clear why: because Dzhemilev himself collected delegates, and they have voted for him», — Ivanov has told.

In his opinion, new Crimean Tatar leaders should realise that for upholding of powers of the Crimean autonomy it is necessary to unite with Russian living here.

«The Crimean Tatar society should be engaged in strengthening of the Russian-Tatar autonomy, instead of construction any halifat. To forget that in Crimea the majority Russian — at least is silly», — the expert has underlined.

Ivanov also has expressed doubt that present Medzhlis can provide Yulia Timoshenko scale support from outside the Tatar population.

«I agree that Medzhlis will not add Timoshenko more than 3 %. At all the fact that all the Crimean Tatar people will support Julia. It is tradition of Muslim communities. Leaders go and speak, let’s work with us, we the community will urge to vote for you. But as a result the community does not vote. People make the choice», — the political scientist has noted.
