Nogai Language Disappears in Ukraine

In the new interactive atlas of UNESCO «the Languages of the world which are under the threat of disappearance» there were two more disappearing languages — Koro (state of Arunachal Pradesh, India) and Cheju (island Cheju, Republic Korea).

In language Cheju is spoken by no more than 10 thousand inhabitants of the island with the same name in South Korea. The chain of generations speaking on it has interrupted, as is free in this language aged people express more than 70 years only.

In language Koro which has no writing, express from 800 to 1000 inhabitants of area East Kameng of state of Arunachal Pradesh in India. Earlier it was considered by linguists as a dialect of tibet-burmese language Aka. But recently experts have proved that the people speaking on Koro, make an independent subgroup of an ethnic group dominating culturally Akа.

For December, 2010 in the interactive atlas of UNESCO «the Languages of the world which are under the threat of disappearance» 2 473 languages which condition of viability is intensified from «vulnerable» to «died out» are registered.

In this atlas — Gagauz language which is spoken by approximately 180 thousand inhabitants of Moldova and Ukraine, and also East Slovak which Ukrainians and Slovaks use. Among languages which are under the threat of disappearance, — Ruthenian language. On it groups of the Ukrainians living in the Zakarpatye area express. In number of disappearing languages in Ukraine it is skidded Nogai language. It was spoken by the Crimean Tatars.
