The Crimean Tatars: the Dangerous Truth

Every year on May, 18th in Crimea recollect deportation of the Crimean Tatars. It is characteristic that thus every time the history becomes the hostage of ambitions of politicians on the different parties of barricades. The truth is necessary to nobody — it is too dangerous to all.

Have ceased speeches on memorial service on the occasion of 66th anniversary of deportation of the Crimean Tatars from Crimea. Wreaths are assigned, mourning candles have burnt down, to recognise accepted the next resolutions of Medzhlis with requirements deportation by «genocide». But behind an information sensation round Day of deportation other theme — disconnexion of the Crimean Tatar communities from other population of Crimea on May, 18th was absolutely lost. And it is a pity.

Actually, the theme of isolation of the Crimean Tatars is not new. Since returning of the people from the deportation, begun in 1989, there were many reasons that this isolation has arisen. It is fear of local population before Tatars from whom nobody knew that to wait. It is complexities of the first years of arrangement of the people on the historical native land when any meeting from their party could outgrow in the disobedience action. It is objective otherness of the Crimean Tatars, after all, as a matter of fact, they — unique large Muslim group of peninsula.

But today, after the lapse of twenty years from the moment of the repatriation beginning, it is possible to assert that all these factors though also important, but nevertheless not defining. To the key reason of disconnexion of the Crimean Tatars — already fifty years. Also has put at all in deportation.

The divergence corner stone between the Crimean Tatars and the others Crimeans is a theme of a collaboration in days of the Great Patriotic War. According to the official Soviet version the Crimean Tatars have been deported from Crimea for mass complicity to Hitlerite invaders with 1941 for 1944. Alternative versions of the reasons of deportation too exist: among them — special kinds of the Soviet management to Crimea. Supporters of these theories refer and to memoirs of the chief of the Soviet investigation of Pavel Sudoplatov who wrote about idea of realisation on project peninsula «Crimean California». If this project has been realised, the modern state Israel could and not to be. More precisely — it would arise, but in Crimea.

According to ideas of the Soviet management «Crimean California» should become region, where the idea of compact residing Soviet could be realised (and is possible and not only) Jews. In exchange for it Soviet Union could count on milliard investments from outside the western powers. Dispute went about, whether to direct these investments only to economy of peninsula or and in other areas USSR which have suffered from Hitlerite occupation. Stalin even brought up a question on appointment to the post of the head of new republic Lazar Kaganovich. But the idea could not come true — already to summer of 1945 year the Soviet management has left this idea and more to it did not come back.

In modern Crimea the key watershed dividing the Crimean Tatars and Slavs, passes on a theme of the reasons of deportation. The majority of Crimeans is assured that deportation is a consequence of mass cooperation of the Crimean Tatars with Germans in peninsula occupation. Tatars consider that the collaboration became only a pretext for clearence of Crimea for the subsequent experiments of the Soviet management.

Isolation of the Crimean Tatars is a consequence of struggle of two mythes about the reasons of their deportation. And, any attempts to translate conversation in scientific sphere encounters counteraction of the most different forces. It is clear: any attempt of rationalisation of a myth invariably conducts to its destruction. If wide discussion proves that Tatars became victims of a mode it will be automatically followed by the moral justification of their requirements about a national sign. And on the contrary — acknowledgement of an official hypothesis that deported the Crimean Tatars for complicity to the enemy, becomes a sentence for a political management of these people.

In the logician of a peace time there is no place to a collective responsibility principle. But war by that also is awful that during it any country lives under other laws. And whoever that spoke, but a principle «people-traitor» automatically justify deportation as a method. An another matter that in history questions scientists, instead of politicians should put clearness. But while deportation continues to be the tool of political gamble of the most different forces there is nothing and to hope for professional discussion about its reasons.

Theoretically, to dissolve themes of a total collaboration and deportation of the Crimean Moslems could try Medzhlis — body of national self-management of the Crimean Tatars. In that case they would have certain arguments in favour of the theory. On the one hand, in the ranks of Red Army of the Crimean Tatars was more than on the party. On the other hand, among each people who have appeared in days of war on an occupied territory, there were the traitors, ready to come over to the side of the enemy.

But from outside of Medzhlis aspirations to initiate wide discussion on this theme were not and are not present. In the daily political activity the management of the Crimean Tatars actively uses such myths as «total neediness of the earth», «self-captures as a way of restoration of historical justice» it is etc. possible that for transfer of any myth in area of rational knowledge is perceived as potential threat to their political present.

Concerning Crimean Tatars to events 1941-1945 are the moments inspiring hope. Among these people it is not observed the slightest attempts to justify collaborators. In a threshold of 65th anniversary of the Victory on peninsula the Crimean Tatars celebrated memory of the heroes battling to fascism. Then that the relation to the Great Patriotic War can become one of basic points for rapprochement which so lacks in the Crimean society.It means, a question only in when it is destroyed monopoly of political speculators for history interpretation.
