There Are Only 16% of the Crimean Tatar Pupils Studied on a Native Language

According to the chairman of Association of Crimean tatar educators of «Maarifchi» Safure Kadzhametova, there are only 16 % of the Crimean Tatar pupils studied on a native language. It was told on a round table «the Condition of Crimean Tatar culture in Crimea: ten years later», led today, on March, 10th, in Akmesdzhit (Simferopol).

For today, in Crimea there are 34 thousand of Crimean Tatar pupils, from them at 15 national schools with Crimean Tatar training language 2845 children are trained. In native language studying are engaged 5592 Crimean Tatar pupils that makes about 16 %. While 85 % Crimean Tatar children, i.e. 28908, are trained at schools in Russian, from them 16289 pupils study a native language as a subject 2-3 hours per week. And more than 8 thousand of Crimean Tatar children at all do not study the native language.

The root of problems of school education on Crimean Tatar language, in opinion of Kadzhametova, consists in absence of the status of language as today, according to the Constitution of Crimea, the Ukrainian language is state, but in all spheres of a public life Russian while during existence Crimean ASSR Crimean Tatar language had the status of the state language.

«The school education condition on Crimean Tatar language remains catastrophic. Many children at all do not own a native language and if the person does not know language of ancestors, his spiritual losses are irreplaceable and to apprehend the culture of the people wholly he would never be able, therefore the language situation demands immediate consideration and change», — has underlined the chairman of Association «Maarifchi».
