Ukrainians Still Suffer Xenophobia Though It Has Gone on Recession

Antoine de Sent-Ekzjuperi has written once : «If I am not similar to you, I don’t offend you by it, but endow». Unfortunately, many Ukrainians aren’t ready to accept similar gift today.

On November, 16th the world celebrates Day of tolerance — the date devoted to respect, understanding and acceptance of people living near to us. It that only is necessary not only mind, but also soul to accept to many Ukrainians. In the theory they are ready to love the whole world. In practice the nationality avoid the neighbor «not that», ask the child not to be on friendly terms with the schoolmate if that is allocated with appearance or skin color, continue to measure people by national stereotypes: that artful because «they all are like that», this is insufficiently enterprising — «all of them a down-and-outs»… We are equal, but not similar including on readiness degree to accept as the good neighbor of the person of other nationality.

One of these days the Kiev international institute of sociology has noticed that some signs of were outlined in Ukraine that the xenophobia stably accruing since 2008, has gone on recession. A bit earlier the deputy director of Institute of sociology NANU Nikolay Shulga has informed what considerably to separate from each other representatives of different nationalities have begun since 2002. It has been connected, most likely, with that the Ukrainian politicians have tried out taste of «national idea» and have started to speculate on it. And then, and now these processes went with different intensity in different regions of the country. Today, according to Nikolay Shulga, in the west of Ukraine people concern Chineses and inhabitants of Asia as a whole, to inhabitants of the countries of Africa, Arabs, Caucasians less tolerantly. Much more it to liking inhabitants of neighboring countries — Russia, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia. Inhabitants of the central regions of our country, separating from the same ethnic groups, it is ready concern Russian. The south and the east of Ukraine remain the most tolerant regions — most likely, it is connected with their primary national diversity.

In general, according to the Kiev international institute sociologists, 85 — 96 % of the population of Ukraine likely concern ethnic Ukrainians, Russian-speaking Ukrainians and Russian. High level of tolerance and in relation to Byelorussians and Jews. The lowest — to black foreigners, only 22 % interrogated are ready to be reconciled with their residing at Ukraine. It is less than half also agree to get on with Germans, Gipsies, Romanians, Canadians, Americans, Frenchmen peacefully.

As it is known, acceptance of people unlike, display of respect for them begin with the childhood. Last year in Crimea among rural schoolboys the probe, concerning tolerance level has been conducted. According to the head of department of probes and monitoring of PRIK PROON Kurtmolla Abdulganiev, 904 pupils of the senior classes and 1090 parents at 26 Crimean schools have been interrogated. As a whole the situation with international relations at level of separate schools can be estimated as positive. 90 % of respondents have agreed that all national groups should have the equal rights. In practice of much less people support the decisions directed on it. For example, such, as means for the decision of problems of national minorities: 33,7 % of the interrogated pupils consider that too many means are spent. 15 % of parents consider state finance of national newspapers, book publishing, TV programs as the privileges bearing in the future threat.

Thus the basic national groups of peninsula separated from each other, and Russian and Ukrainians equally kept away from the Crimean Tatars. It would be desirable to believe that those national borders with which have surrounded itself some Crimeans, will be erased nevertheless.
