Rada Has Refused to National Minorities

The Supreme Rada of Ukraine has not supported Alexander Feldman’s bill № 3293 «About realisation of the rights of national public associations on promotion of the candidates», according to which the right to promotion of candidates of local councils was given to public organisations of national minorities.

«Ukraine is the multinational state in which territory representatives of 130 nationalities, nationalities and ethnic groups live. Our country has incurred a number of the international obligations on maintenance of participation of national minorities in work of representation authorities, and in article 14 of a law in force of Ukraine» About national minorities «is directly said that national public associations have the right to put forward the candidates. This quite European and democratic offer», — was declared by Feldman.

The offered bill offered to realise this right within the limits of the law on elections of deputies that already on the nearest local elections national minorities could delegate the representatives to local councils on a level with political parties.
