Turkey Sees the Future Of Ukraine As «Very Light And Promising»

The future of Ukraine sees «very light and promising», the ambassador of Turkey in Kiev Ahmet Merich has declared.

«From my point of view, in Ukraine it is very modern society quickly enough mastering democracy. On a level of development of democracy it is in the lead among the former republics of Soviet Union. You have strong institutions developed, the economy has very much a more potential. I see the future of Ukraine very light and promising», — he has told in interview to the newspaper «Day».

Меrich has declared that Ankara is interested in removal of some customs restrictions in trade with Ukraine.

«We receive raw materials and half processed goods from Ukraine, we use them in our industry, we make the goods and we sell them in the different markets… If we eliminate tariff and not tariff barriers in our trade relations, our businessmen begin to look more seriously at Ukraine and instead of diversifying resources of deliveries, considering affinity of Ukraine, will more seriously concentrate attention to Ukraine, and will buy more in your country», — the diplomat has explained.

The ambassador of Turkey has let know that in his country sceptically estimate prospects of a lining of the new Russian pipeline «Southern stream» bypassing Ukraine.

«We have not beeninvolved to South Stream which is the Russian project. Ankara has only allowed Russians to carry out in our special economic zone of Black sea works on studying of possibility of realisation of this project. However the government has not agreed yet to Russians to building of gas pipeline South Stream. Russia should find enough of gas for transportation on this gas pipeline. When I talked to experts they have told, that it will be very expensive project. After all its big part will go on a bottom of one of the deepest sees in the world», — has explained Merich.

He has assured that Turkey, ready to participate in the civil-engineering design of gas pipeline Nabucco, is not the competitor of Ukraine.

«I want you to understood me. We do not consider Ukraine as our competitor, and we wish to see its as our partner. We — friendly neighbouring countries. And after government change in your country we want, our friendship has turned to partnership. You have an infrastructure through which Russian natural gas to the Western Europe is transported mainly. But it is very old gas-transport system which requires reconstruction and replacement. And now its tested throughput makes 80 billion in cubic m… However the maximum possibility Nabucco makes 36 billion in cubic m. And if your gas-transport system is restored you will have a throughput in 200 billion in cubic m and then Nabucco it will be simple gas-transport system. We do not compete with you, we invite your people to Nabucco, carrying out thus very opened to the policy. We know that today any state cannot guarantee power safety without a diversification of sources of deliveries and transit routes », — the ambassador of Turkey has assured.
