In Simferopol on February, 26th in assembly hall of the Crimean engineering-pedagogical university has passed the mourning action devoted to Hodzhalinsky tragedy of the Azerbaijan people.
This day on February, 26th, 1992 there was a terrible tragedy — massacre of inhabitants of the Azerbaijan city of Hodzhaly by the Armenian armed formations, described by a number of sources as the largest and severe slaughter-house of the Karabakh war.
Memory of the people who were innocently lost during Hodzhalinsky tragedy was honoured by the minute of silence, representatives of the Crimean government, the first deputy of chairman of Milli Medzhlis Refat Chubarov, the vice-president of the President in Crimea Bogdan Dubas, the first deputy of the Plenipotentiary ambassador of Azerbaijan in Ukraine Iljas Mamedov, the honourable consul of Republic Turkey in Crimea Sejran Osmanov, the assistant to the representative the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in Akmesdzhit Ruslan Deremedved, and also more than 100 representatives of the Azerbaijan diaspora living in Crimea.
Mourning action has begun with a national anthem of the Azerbaijan Republic after which the hymn of Ukraine has sounded. During the action devoted to memory of victims of Hodzhalinsky tragedy, there has passed an exhibition of books and documentary photographs, and also the documentary film, testifying to terrible events of that day is shown. For one night Hodzhaly has been destroyed, by the Armenian insurgents, 613 civilians of Hodzhaly were killed, from whom 106 — women, 63 — children, 70 — old men. More than thousand persons were taken prisoner to the armed gangsters, more than 150 persons were missing, 487 persons have been crippled and became invalids, 76 from which were minors.
One of leaders of the Azerbaijan diaspora in Crimea Ragima Gumbatova has noticed that the political and legal estimation till now is not given these terrifying events, and the Armenian state did not recognise Hodzhalinsky tragedy as the genocide certificate.
Let’s notice that the decision of Milli Medzhlis (National Meeting) Azerbaijan Republic on February, 26th it is declared the «Day of the Hodzhalinsky genocide and national mourning». Besides, on February, 25th 1997 year the Decree of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic «About the announcement of minute of silence in memory of victims of the Hodzhalinsky genocide» is published. Annually on February, 26th the head of the state addresses to the people in connection with «the Hodzhalinsky genocide».
