In Crimea have passed the solemn actions devoted to the 90 anniversary from the date of a birth twice of the Hero of Soviet Union of Amet-khan Sultan.

Assignment to the International airport «Simferopol» of a name of Amet-khan Sultan should become the main event of celebrating of anniversary, certainly. But the policy has interfered with business.

At plenary session on October, 20th deputies of the Crimean parliament haven’t supported this initiative. For assignment of a name of the Soviet pilot to the airport 46 deputies from 70 registered in a hall have voted. It is not excluded that the Crimean elects were confused with that the offer on assignment proceeded from initiative group of pilots «Native land Wings» from among the Crimean Tatars.

The matter is that many Crimean Tatar organizations, including Medzhlis, achieve for a long time returning to the Crimean cities and settlements of pre-war names, many of which Turkic. Probably, deputies of Supreme body АRC were afraid that change of the name of the Simferopol airport will begin process of «renamings» on peninsula as a whole.

It is a pity. The legendary pilot, certainly, is worthy that his name has been immortalized in the name of the largest airport of Crimea. While in honor of Amet-khan Sultan the area and aeroclub in Simferopol, streets in Alupka, Volgograd, Zhukovsky are named. The prospectus and the airport in Makhachkala. Mountain peak in Dagestan. A platform on 34th kilometer of a line of Ostrjakovo — Evpatoria. School-lycée № 8 of Kaspijsk in Republic Dagestan.

Bronze busts of the glorified pilot are established in his native Alupka and in Makhachkala. In Yaroslavl this year have established also a monument.

Let’s remind that by the end of the Great Patriotic War of guards the major Amet-khan Sultan has made 603 fighting departures, having brought down in 150 air fights of 30 planes of the opponent personally and 19 — as a part of group.

In August, 1943 for courage and the courage shown in fights with enemies, he has been awarded ranks of the Hero of Soviet Union, and in June, 1945 has been awarded by a medal «Gold Star» in the second time.

After war Amet-khan Sultan has arrived in Academy of the Air Forces, but soon began to work as the test pilot, having mastered about 100 cars and having received a rank «the Test pilot of 1st class». In 1952 Amet-khan Sultan has been awarded the Stalin award, and in 1961 — ranks «the Deserved test pilot of the USSR». His life has broken in test flight on February, 1st, 1971.

It would be desirable to hope that a name of Amet-khan Sultan the airport in Simferopol nevertheless will be named during the solemn actions devoted to a centenary from the date of a birth of the Soviet expert.
