In anticpation of 65 anniversary of the Great Victory and the 90 anniversary from the date of a birth of Ametkhan Sultan on April, 28th on behalf of the Sanhedrim of the Crimean Tatar people «Namus», organisation Milli Firka, the Union of Crimean Tatar officers «birligi» and the Museum of Ametkhan Sultan in Alupka to the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev has been sent the letter-petition on assignment of the third star of the Hero of Russia to the legendary military pilot-expert, twice the Hero of Soviet Union.

For the sake of freedom, power and prosperity of one big Native land and all its people Ametkhan Sultan made the feats and was lost in the sky, executing military and a professional duty. On set made in military and a peace time of feats of Ametkhan Sultan deserves a much bigger recognition from outside the state, the citizen, the patriot and which correct son he was till last seconds the life.

Dear Dmitry Anatolevich!

Long time to please inspirers, organizers and executors of malicious will of a Stalin mode in the country the policy of total discrimination and discredit of the Crimean Tatar people was spent. Even concerning those its representatives who without sparing the life, as belief and the truth served the Native land, protected it on Great Patriotic War fronts.

Relapses of that misanthropic policy continue to sadden relations between the people living on open spaces of the countries of Commonwealth, between the Crimean Tatars, Ukrainians and Russian in Ukraine and Crimea. In your will to begin process of rapprochement, adjustments of mutually advantageous fruitful cooperation, revival of spirit of good neighbourhood and mutual respect between the people and citizens there is uniform country.

Restoration of justice and reputation of those who undeservedly has been forgotten, deprived by attention of the state would be one of such steps of you, and their merits before the Native land on advantage have not been recognised and noted only because they are the Crimean Tatars.

One of such real heroes was and there is the legendary military fighter pilot, the deserved test pilot selflessly betrayed to the Native land and a military debt twice the Hero of Soviet Union Ametkhan Sultan.

He, participating in the Great Patriotic War from its first volleys (Kishinev, 4/29/1941), in the sky over Berlin was brought down by the forty ninth enemy plane.

From 1947 to 2/1/1971 (tragically was lost in the sky) — test pilot of M.Gromov (c. Zhukovsky the Moscow region). For work quarter of the century in FRI Ametkhan Sultan actively participated in development of world and domestic aviation and space technics.

In 1947-49 — together with S.N.Anokhin and N.S.Rybalko Ametkhan Sultan conducts tests of flying laboratory LL-1 and LL-2 P.V.Tsybin’s designs. In these tests for transsonic speeds invaluable extensive materials of aerodynamic characteristics of examinees of flying machines that has given the chance to the further development of sound and supersonic aviation technics have been received.

On July, 23rd, 1948 on LL-1 after launch the auxiliary design has not separated, there was the extremely critical situation. Ametkhan Sultan could not make landing fot a lonf time. However the pilot, having shown courage, composure and skill, has managed to plant the plane, thereby has saved lives of people and an expensive product.

In 1949 Ametkhan Sultan together with A.P.Yakimov spends working off of system of automatic refuelling of planes by a method «from a wing on a wing». In June of the same year together with I.Shelest leads the first in the country completely automatic refuelling in air.

In the end of 1949 Ametkhan Sultan and J.I.Vernikov carry out the first flight on skilled all-weather double fighter-interceptor I-320 (working out of Mikoyan) and reach speeds of a sound, spend its production tests.

In 1951-52 Ametkhan Sultan together with S.N.Anokhin and F.I.Burtsev in Bagerovo (Crimea) have conducted device KS-1 tests (a prototype of modern cruise missiles) which was suspended under strategic bomber ТU-4. The plane-carrier gained height of 3000 m, whence КС-1 started in an automatic mode, went on the purpose. As a result of emergency отцепки КС-1 without the got engine a stone has gone downwards. Under the instruction of Ametkhan Sultan should catapult. But he has courageously continued to struggle for rescue of an experimental product and before the earth has got the engine and has safely planted КС-1 on airdrome. For this feat he has been presented to the third star of the Hero of Soviet Union. But it was the Crimean Tatar and consequently «the leader of all times and the people» has counted sufficient to note Ametkhan Sultan only an award of the Red Banner and the Stalin award.

In 1953 Ametkhan Sultan had been carried out flights for research of stability and controllability of plane Si-10 on supersonic speeds.

On November, 12th, 1958 during test of a catapult-armchair for planes Su-7 and Su-9 by plane MIG-17 Amethan explosion which has punched a fuel tank has occurred the Sultan and parachutist-verifier Valery Golovin at catapult start. Both cabins have been filled in at once by kerosene, there was a fire threat. V.Golovin could not leave the plane because of armchair-catapult deformation. Despite the arrived command from the earth immediately to catapult most, Ametkhan Sultan has made courageous decision to put the plane that has been executed by him irreproachably, and the life of the friend has been rescued (V.Golovin for this flight has been awarded the order Lenin).

On April, 7th, 1959 Amethan Sultan has executed the first flight by the experimental plane P.V.Tsybin’s NМ-1 designs, and later together with R.F.Zaharov has conducted its tests.

Аmetkhan Sultan was at the beginnings of preparation of flight of the person in space. Onboard converted ТU-104М behind which steering wheel there was Ametkhan Sultan, young future space pilots have tested for the first time weightlessness. Cosmonaut Leonov also has executed the experimental extravehicular activity onboard the laboratory piloted by Ametkhan Sultan.

On September, 23rd, 1961 Ametkhan Sultan has been appropriated a rank of the Deserved test pilot of the USSR (№ a sign 38).

On February, 1st, 1971 on LL-ТU-16 at test of the new powerful engine the plane has blown up. All crew and Ametkhan Sultan were lost. The Hero in Moscow on the New maiden cemetery is buried.

Despite his awards (two gold stars of the Hero, Lenin’s three Awards, five — the Red Banner, Alexander Nevskogo’s Award, the Red Star, a Patriotic War, the Sign on Honour and others) Ametkhan Sultan undoubtedly deserves more.

On the threshold of 65 anniversaries of the Great Victory and the 90 anniversary of Ametkhan Sultan we petition for assignment to him of a rank of the Hero of Russia. The great son of the Crimean Tatar people was at war, tested flying machines, made the feats and was lost in the sky for the sake of freedom, power and prosperity of one big Native land and all his people.

Assignment to him of the third star of the Hero would be display of respect for all patriots of the country which are equally esteemed also roads irrespective of their national identity, as well as should be in such multinational great power with what was eat and there will be the Russian Federation.
