Chatyrdag as an Image And a Symbol In Jury Osmanov’s Poetry

At attentive studying of a poetic heritage of J.B.Osmanov it is necessary to pay attention to a number of steady words used by him — symbols and concepts — images. In their number symbols of native Crimea, love to the people, struggle for returning of the moved people in Fatherland and for restoration of all its rights and conditions are especially significant…

One of those is the name of the top unusual among Crimean mountains both the site, and the scale.

It is Chatyrdag which in J.Osmanov’s early creativity appears as the terrible guard of rest and the world of Crimea and its people:

The child stamps inept step,

He is dawned from the cradle by terrible Chatyr-Dag

From a poem «Go through wood…», written to the conclusion (jan.1969)

Risings, declines Ai-Petriy shine,

The sea worries, surfs boil.

Gloomy, there is Chatyr-Dag on hours

Over the Crimean open space, on the Crimean mountains

From a poem devoted to Enver Mametov and written in the conclusion (7.01.1970).

Readers have paid attention that both resulted fragments from the poems written in bondage. Jury Bekirovich has been subjected to repression and condemned for active participation in national movement of the Crimean Tatars on imprisonment. He has spent in prison (the item of Bessopan in Kyzylkumah) two and a half years (1968-1970). To this period, by the way, it had been wrote such remarkable poetic products, as «Last word» (29.05. 1968г.), «I have inherited…» (21.10. 1968г.), «Fly, shine my star…» (12.12. 1968г.), «Mum, hi, native…» (1968 1 1969), «Dialogues»…

There, in isolation from native, from the people, J.Osmanov saw before himself Chatyr Dag reminding to him about the Native land and a debt, giving to firmness and strengthening will to struggle. During the life entirely devoted to struggle for national equality of the Crimean Tatar people, he has been condemned three times and has spent in bondage seven and a half years.

At J.B.Osmanov’s mature age of Chatyr Dag appears in his poetry and at readers as the patriarch, the elder-sheikh, the lord, a priest:

White snow will fall on a branch,

The turban at Chatyr-Dag is white.

On the sea Black our ark is

Under a sail becomes with a former flag…

(From «Poems on a nut», devoted to the daughter — Merem (30.09.1989, Fergana)

You immortality will be prolonged by your descendant:

Having given the Yurta a life, will renew a movement,

And Chatyr-Dag’s white head

To blind men will move apart clouds.

(From a poem «Memories Bekir Choban-zade» (01.11. 1992, Simferopol)

The sun has risen, looking for the spring

And Chatyr-Dagu having shined ownes…

(From a six-lower case poem (7.03. 1993, Simferopol)

In a poem Bekir Choban-zade «Bulutlar…» (On the Crimean Tatar language) Chatyr-Dag is not present an image. Jury Osmanov in the translation of this product into Russian (1992г.) has entered this image for brighter and capacious portrayal of a panoramic picture of the native land-Crimea and the sky spread over it in the form of white bed curtains from clouds:

Clouds, clouds! Pilgrims of heavens,

From Chatyr to Chongar the proerased canopy!

Symbol-image of Chatyrdag — sacral for national consciousness of the Crimean Tatars of the mountain which are in the middle of a chain of Crimean mountains, connecting and connecting as if a precious emerald fastener, various attires of our native land — its steppes, woody mountains and midday coast — J.B.Osmanov in his poetry has been reused.

Chatyrdag is a guard of the native land, national memory and traditions. It and a symbol of a primogenitor, a priest, and one of support against which Fatherland heavens lean.
